The post that caused a thousand tweets

Right.

So I already had posterous set to autopost to Twiter, now I've added my Blogger blog and my Tumblr account.

Both of which, if I recall rightly, also auto tweet (say that five times fast). So this post should probably appear in my twitter timeline at least 3 times.

Which is probably annoying.

Don't mind me, thinking out loud.

:)

Homework:

1. Think about why you would want your content to be on many different platforms. Isn't variety the spice of life? However, most people (I have no stats to back this up) prefer to hang around just one or two key platforms, so this is a way to make my content available in whichever platform suits you best. Theoretically. But if you trawl them all, I'll be a bit overkill. Of course, you can always unsubscribe from me on all but one channel to avoid that. But it puts the onus back on you. Discuss.

2. Eat an apple today.

3. Be nice to your parents.

What advice do you give to someone who is a self-taught freelance social media consultant who would like to take the next step and work for a company?

Depends which type of company! If it's a "normal" company you'll need to combine your social media background with something else, if it's a social media/startup/smaller company, get to know the people who could hire you, find out what they're looking for.

Contemporary art: is it all just bunkum?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Read the book I'm reading "What Good Are the Arts" and persevere until you get to the "Can Art be a Religion" chapter - half way through that there's some really good stuff. The book will make you think!

Eric Idle or Ronnie Barker?

Ronnie Barker, purely because I've seen more of his stuff. They both crack me up completely.

It's the putting right that matters

I decided to try the much-more-expensive-but-ostensibly-better-for-me EcoStore anti dandruff shampoo recently.

It wasn't so good. Gave me more dandruff.

So I rang up, left a message asking for next steps to get a refund.

Got a call from Angie, who was really great. She explained their back story, that their previous formulation never had any complaints, but their current formula had a few complaints similar to mine.

She then asked if I'd be interested in trying the old formulation. Worth a try!

Great customer service is leadership. Angie led me towards a different solution that might just be of more value to me than a cash refund.

The customer can also help. I was my usual friendly self, even though I was making a complaint.

Being nice to people really does make life easier, 90% of the time. And the nicer you are the 90% of the time, the more effective is the 10% when you bring out the big guns :)
